The party is hired by a dwarf, Druthnar Bloodaxe to travel
with him to the ruined village of Ruanon to recover a long lost
heirloom of his clan, an ancient hammer. While camped on the
outskirts of Scornubel the party meets Rhiora and Ogre gets
pissed while trying to impress her. Needless to say she isn’t
impressed. Still later that evening a stranger approaches their
campfire stating that he has "a message for the Silver
Blades.
" That’s us" replies Lexar just before all hell
breaks loose and several warriors burst into the camp.
A pitched battle is fought and when the last of the assailants dies there are 10 dead warriors and a cleric lying dead or dying amongst the ruins of the camp. The battle was a close one as a cleric managed to hold most of the party but fortunately for them Druthnar dispelled the magic. Maxine was hit by a mystic lash controlled by a second cleric, as was Eron. Druthnar and Ogre were both blinded by magic but the last two clerics were killed or driven off.
On the second day out two owl bears attack Eron who is scouting ahead. Ogre and Druthnar come to his rescue and drive the beasts off. But not before Druthnar loses his right ear to one of the monsters.
In the evening of the fifth day out from Scornubel Eron spots a group of clerics performing some kind of ritual in a dark glade while he searches for aa place to camp for the night. A plan of attack is soon formulated. Ogre, Lexar and Druthnar take one entrance to the glade, Maxine, Eron and Talesian the other.
The word is given and a battle breaks out but the plan almost immediately begins to go wrong. Bone bats fly out of the trees to attack the intruders and the clerics quickly respond to the incursion. Druthnar manages to cast a silence 15’ radius but Ogre, Lexar and Eron are all paralysed by spells. Fortunately Druthnar manages to free them with a remove paralysis spell of his own. Ogre, Lexar and Druthnar flee and are pursued by several undead warriors and five bone bats. Maxine uses her wand of illumination to cast Sunray on the undead and a web to halt the undead. Maxine, Eron and Talesian are then held by the clerics.
Fortunately for them Ogre, Druthnar and Lexar have by now recovered their senses and return to the fray, just in time to stop the clerics killing their companions. One cleric is held by a hold person cast by Druthnar while two others disappear.
On the far side of the clearing two evil clerics hold three prisoners. They threaten to kill them unless the party surrenders. Druthnar, Lexar and Ogre look at each other then charge. Two prisoners are slain and Druthnar tries his best to save one but is a fraction to late. In a fury Ogre and Druthnar attack the clerics, one disappears while the other turns and flees into the forest with Druthnar in hot pursuit. They stop in a clearing and Druthnar slays him in single combat after trying several times to get him to surrender. The angry dwarf hacks the clerics head off and returns to the clearing, kicking the head before him.
In the clearing meanwhile the party has freed a young druid and help him to restore his grove to purity by destroying a recently erected altar dedicated to the dark god Bane.
Sunday May 8th
The Silver Blades finally locate the ruins of Ruanon deep in the Reaching Woods to the east of Scornubel. The party immediately heads towards a large building near the edge of the town, a ruined temple dedicated to Tymora. Nearing the temple several "birdmen" attack (araokaa?) but the creatures are driven off. Maxine uses a levitate spell to reach their lair and webs them. The birdmen are then slain. Searching their lair she finds about 1200 gp.
The party caries on and soon reaches the ruined temple but are attacked by twelve ghoulish dogs in the outer courtyard. Druthnar, Ogre, Lexar, Eron and Talesian are paralysed in the battle but Maxine manages to save the day by using her wand of illumination to destroy most of the dogs. Druthnar and Talesian recover in time to slay the last of the dogs and help Maxine to round up the others and help them to retreat back to the forest.
Two days late a second attack on the temple is launched by the party. This time they climb over the outer wall and try to clean out the battlements above the gatehouse. Twelve juju zombie guards are killed in one guard room but Maxine and Lexar both lose levels when a second force of juju’s led by two wights attacks from behind. Maxine is once again forced to use her wand off illumination on the undead and most of them are killed and the few remaining creatures slain by her companions.
The party presses onwards into the temple and slay four ghasts in another fight. This time Ogre, Eron and Talesian are all paralysed in the fight. The room beyond the ghasts lair contains 6 juju zombies and three skeletal warriors and another battle takes place. Once again the Silver blades are victorious but this time Ogre loses three fingers to a well aimed blow (critical) from one of the warriors. The party loots the bodies (finding a pair of boots of speed, two handed sword +2 and a suit of elven chain +3) before retreating.
The party heads back to Scornubel to train.
