June 5th 1994

The Silver Blades return to Scornuble for some much needed rest and a reunion with the mage Lexar. Once recovered they head back to Ruanon for another show down with the undead. On the way they make short work of 7 ogres who thought that they could finish off the party-fools!

Reaching the village they again launch a raid on the lich’s temple. They enter the great hall while protected by defensive spells and let Maxine ice storm several wights. Battle is joined. Druthnar charges past two trolls to engage a lich in hand-to-hand whilst his companions finish off the humanoids. Druthnar slays the lich who is instantly killed after being hit by the mace of destruction- first blood to the party (the lich needed to roll less than 80 on D100 to save & rolled 85!). Ogre and Eron attack the second lich who tries to use a word of recall to flee but this fails as Ogre has a silence spell on himself and this negates the lich’s word. The lich flees through a blade barrier with the Silver Blades in hot pursuit. They corner him in one tower but the lich isn’t finished. He calls in reinforcements in the form of several spectres, wights and ghasts. Maxine casts an ice storm and Lexar burning hands, while Druthnar uses the mace to deadly affect. Ogre is reduced to 2hp and Eron is held by a spell before the lich manages to escape by fleeing back through the blade barrier. The Silver Blades are hurting too bad to pursue so the lich gets away. After the barrier is dispelled the Silver Blades retreat to lick their wounds once more.

Three days later they return to do battle once more and this time penetrate as far as the dungeons after killing 10 ghoulish hounds (thanks to Maxine’s ice storm) where they encounter the death knight and his two demon companions! Ogre challenges the death knight to single combat and Druthnar foolishly bets Eron’s soul as a wager!

The dialogue went something like this:
Druthnar says, "I bet you Ogre wins."
"How much?" replies the demon.
"Gee, I don’t know" the dwarf answers trying to think of something really worthwhile. "How about taking us directly to the lich's without having to fight their minions?"
"Okay, and what will you bet? How about your soul?" the demon replies.
"How about his." Says Druthnar pointing at Eron.
"Okay."
"WHAT!" exclaims Eron.
"I was only kidding" says Druthnar to the demon.
"I wasn’t! A bets a bet."
"Oops."

The single combat doesn’t go well. Ogre loses after failing a save vs a magical affect on the death knights sword. Druthnar realising that the shit is about to hit the fan leaps forward to intervene. The death knight banishes Ogre from the temple and the brave warrior meekly leaves!

Druthnar challenges the death knight to single combat and gets the demon’s to cancel their bet for Eron’s soul replacing it with his own (he’s trying to atone). Druthnar then loads up with everybody’s magic items and steps forward to face the death knight.

The fight goes badly as Druthnar rolls a 1 to save vs the knights enchanted blade and is paralysed by the sword. Killed and his soul taken. Bummer! The others flee. Lexar is VERY distraught as Druthnar had his cloak of displacement and boots of speed.

· Later that day a fight breaks out between Maxine and Lexar over the division of treasure. Talesian and Ogre intervene on Lexar’s behalf and Maxine turns on them all. She casts a web spell on them and the party is very nearly slain by her before everyone calms down and order is restored.

The party decides to head off to Berdusk.

So ends another glorious chapter in the history of the Silver Blades, one I’m sure they’d rather forget about.
