The Wolfsheads are hired by the Dukes of Baldur's Gate to infiltrate a pirate town located on the Sword Coast near Cloak Wood. Apparently the pirates have been coordinating their attacks with a green dragon and the dukes want the attacks stopped.
The party travels overland and reaches the town. They bluff their way into the town and find an inn to stay at. Tim becomes invisible and maps out the city while the others wait for him to return. The invisible monk enters the leaders quarter and locates first a temple and then the pirate chief's house. He decides to enter alone and manages to steal some maps and a small statuette before he is discovered and forced to flee.
Two days later the Wolfsheads break into Yorin's (the pirate chief) house. The get as far as the second floor before being discovered. Yorin, his assistant Theg and 6 guards attack. Petal manages to sleep the guards and Tim stuns both Theg and Yorin but by now the rest of the household has been alerted and reinforcements are beginning to arrive. Aldor fights the guards on the bottom of the stairs trying to block the line of retreat while Tim kills Theg.
By now Yorin is no longer stunned and fights back. He kills Tim and then dispatches the ranger as well. Petal and Aldor flee the building and then the city having decided that it is no longer safe. They head back to Baldur's Gate.
21st March 1990
Aldor returns to Baldur's Gate and gets reinforcements (Murwood,
Gilfronden, Zatzala and John Blackwind) before leading the
Wolfsheads back to Scrape.
On the second night they are attacked by 3 mummies but the undead are dispatched. The following morning they track the mummies back to their tomb and search it. Gilfronden falls down a pit when the floor falls away and is attacked by three giant snakes but they are soon slain by the Wolfsheads.
They find a secret tomb and plunder it after being attacked by a spectre. Aldor managed to turn the undead.
A few days later they reach Scrape. They meet up with a spy working for the Dukes and he gives them a map showing the location of the Dragon's lair which is in a mesa deep in the Cloak Wood.
Following the directions on the map they locate the mesa and attack a band of gnolls guarding the entrance to a series of caves that honeycomb the hill. The Wolfsheads push deeper into the caves and reach a large cavern. A chasm crosses the cave splitting it in two. The remaining gnolls have taken up defensive positions on the far side of the chasm and begin peppering the party with arrow fire. thee is a single rickety looking bridge across the chasm and the Wolfsheads direct their attack here. Unfortunately the bridge is a trap and it has been weakened and gives way under Zatzala's weight. He falls into the chasm and is attacked by a Bloodworm and killed.
By use of spells the gnolls are all slain and the party crosses the chasm and discovers an underground lake in the heart of the mesa not far beyond. On the far side they spy the entrance to a large cave which they decide must be the dragon's lair. They are unsure of how to proceed as they have no way to cross the lake. John Blackwind comes up with a "clever" idea. He returns to the gnolls cave and recovers some of the bridge and miscellaneous bits of wood and makes a rough raft. He launches the raft with Murwood, Aldor, Gilfronden and the elven mage/ thief on board aand then begins yelling!
The plan is that he attracts the dragons attention and the Wolfsheads use the raft as a fighting platform to slay the dragon. A great plan except for one small fact- the dragon doesn't have to engage in hand-to-hand.
It is awakened by the commotion and investigates. It makes a pass at the raft breathing its noxious chlorine gas at the party. Petal is knocked out but the othes survive.Realising that the plan sucks they hit the dragon with spells and missile weapons and force it back into it's lair.
Murwood climbs up to the dragon's cave and let's down a rope so that the others can climb up. Entering the lair Murwood is slain by the dragon's breathe but Gilfronden and Aldor slay the beast.
John Blackwind joins them and they spend the next three days resting up and counting the dragon's horde before heading back to Baldur's Gate with lots of loot.
