The Wolfsheads Band

DM: Craig
Adventure: Vesciant (Dungeon #14)
Date: 28th March 1990

The Wolfsheads:

Tim Shaman: human, male, Monk 7, LN
Petal: elf, female, Magic User 4/ Thief 5, CN
Gilfronden: elf, male, Fighter 6/ Magic User 6, CN
?: human, female, Fighter 4

The party returns to Baldur's Gate and spend several weeks recovering from their last adventure and training. during this time they use the last wish from a ring of wishes that they'd picked up in the dragons horde to bring Tim back from the dead. He, like the others, wants revenge against Yorin. So soon a plan to destroy the pirate leader is hatched.

They return to Scrape aand spend two days checking out troop movements in and around the leaders fortress before launching their attack. They notice that only troops with passes are admitted to the fortressnnow so arrange to ambush three merchants as they approach the stronghold. They enter the building undetected (Tim is invisible) and make it as far as a foyer on the second storey before being discovered by two ogre guards who raise the alarm.

The ogres are slain but Gilfronden does a really BAD fumble and inflicts a critical hit on himself- chest injuries, instant death! He must have slipped on his sword and impaled himself. Meanwhile more guards are flocking to the fortress in response to the alarms and things are beginning to look a little grim.

Petal and the nameless human fighter fight their way down the stairs while Tim guards the door leading deeper into the second level. Guards rush the stairs while the door Tim is guarding is opened and four ogres try to rush him. Time to leave!

Tim grabs Gilfronden's girdle of giant strenth and breaks the bars covering the window. He throws Gilfronden's corpse out the window then fights off the ogres long enough for the others to leap out the window.

Six more ogres appear across the courtyard and give chase. Petal falls as she reaches an alley, shot down by archers, while Tim (carrying Gilfronden still) and the fighter make it as far as the palisade surrounding the town. The fighter falls as she is about to leap over the wall to safety. There are several arrows protruding from her back. Tim however makes it over the wall to safety.

Tim races along the wall to a river flowing out of the town and dumps Gilfronden's body by a grill, which is unfortunately right by the palisade. The guards spot him and he is hit by an ogres spear and falls.

Aldor of Tempus: human, male,Cleic 7 (Fighter 3), CN
Gilfronden: elf, male, Fighter 6/ Magic User 6, CN
Murwood: human, male, Bard 7 (F 5/ T6), NG
Shartor: human, female, Magic User 4 (former F 3), CN

Somehow the party manages to get Gilfronden back. I haven't the notes but I assume they went back aand found his remains. They left Tim however as most people were tired of his antics and his forever calling the party "Tim's Band."

They have had enough of Yorin and his pirates so decide to do something different. They winter over in Baldur's Gate and then when the spring thaw came are hired to investigate as series of lizardman attacks on caravans in the vicinity of Daggerford. They even arrange to get teleported to Watedeep where they arrange for a group of mercenaries to join them on their quest.

On the second night in Watedeep they are attacked by assassins- a groupof thugs led by two wererats. The assassins are killed but the party is beginning to wonder about how long a reach Yorin actually has.

Once they are ready they head south bound for the Lizard Marsh. Reaching this dismal place they begin to search for signs of lizardmen. On the third day they are attacked by 5 trolls and lose 7 mercs before killing the monsters.

The following night a groaning spirit attacks their camp. Shartor dies, stuck down by the pitiful wailing of the spirit, while Gilfronden, Murwood and the remaining mercs all flee, leaving Aldor to kill the evil spirit by himself. He then searches for his companions and eventually finds both Gilfronden and Murwood but there is no sign of the mercs (they all fell into quicksand and died).

On the seventh day they are attacked by a basilisk and Murwood is petrified before the creature is slain.
