Adventurers: Aldor and Murwood

Aldor communes with Tempus to get advice on what to do about the portal to the Astral plane. That night he has a dream showing a book in the githyanki fortress that may help to close the portal.

The following morning Murwood is contacted by Khelbun Blackstaff who informs him that Lightstaff (his and Gilfronden’s former father in the orphanage) has been kidnapped in Scornubel. The Wolfsheads immediately head south in the cloud castle. On the way south they see the remains of a caravan that has been destroyed by giants (near Red Larch). They carry on south.

Arriving in Scornubel they travel to the orphanage and meet with Melana (Lightstaff’s wife) and view the ransom note. The note is signed by the Shadow Thieves- a nasty band based in Amn- and Gilfronden recognises the symbol as that of the assassins who slew his father.

The following day Murwood gathers together the 10,000gp ransom which Aldor delivers after another note is thrown through a window at the orphanage. The Wolfsheads have an hour to deliver the money. Aldor does so while Murwood, in the guise of a hawk, watches. Aldor leaves and Murwood follows the courier who collects the ransom to a warehouse near the docks.

Murwood follows the thief into the sewers and watches him enter a secret door. He then returns for Aldor. Together the two friends enter the sewer hide out. They overcome several traps before being attacked in a room protected by darkness. The magical darkness conceals 4 mummies which are eventually killed by the Wolfsheads. In the following room a gas spore attacks Aldor but Murwood backstabs it and the ‘spore explodes. Aldor then casts cure disease on Murwood. A few cure spells later and the two adventurers are ready to continue. They enter a water filled corridor and half way along it are surprised when a flask of oil from the ceiling lights the flammable oil (not water after all) and they are both burned, and most of their clothing ruined. The next room is another trap- an illusion of Lightstaff to lure them in, then the exit is blocked and four trolls attack. Aldor and Murwood are equal to the task and the trolls are soon dispatched.
Beyond this room is the lair of Geildarr (their old nemisis from Llorkh) who tells them why he is going to kill them- after all they ruined his life (he was almost killed by the Zentarium for losing Llorkh). Geildarr watches as his ogre guards are slain by Aldor and Murwood. His beholder ally is slain by Murwood who does a 60hp critical (ouch) and that is enough for Geildarr, he teleports back to Scrape.

Lightstaff is rescued and returned to the orphanage where he gives Murwood a small box from his father. It turns out that his father was the youngest brother of the king of Tethyr and that since the royal family was slain some twenty years ago Murwood is now the heir to the throne. There are several items in the box that prove his lineage and a message from his father that states that if Murwood reads this letter then it is likely that the family is in danger, or dead, and that he should claim his throne. Needless to say Garth is very impressed to hear of Murwood’s royal lineage and is now planning a return to Tethyr for his character...
